Kara A. Godwin, a visionary leader and strategist, will join 芭乐视频 as the inaugural senior global fellow starting at the end of August.
Godwin brings more than 20 years of experience as an accomplished strategist and collaborative scholar focused on global engagement with a focus on institutional transformation and interdisciplinarity. Most recently, she served as the director of internationalization at the American Council on Education (ACE), where she led ACE's global strategy and flagship Internationalization Laboratory program.
鈥淭his newly created position is a critical step forward in advancing our Global Pomona Project as we work on realizing our vision of providing transformative global learning experiences for all Pomona students,鈥 says Melanie Wu, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College. 鈥淲ith Kara's leadership, the College is poised to accelerate our progress toward our global engagement goals.鈥
Before ACE, Godwin held several roles that shaped her expertise in global education. At the Boston College Center for International Higher Education, she conducted research on the worldwide emergence of liberal arts education, culminating in her doctoral dissertation. She also brings valuable experience from her time at Northwestern University, where she had a proven record of developing intercultural competence among faculty and students through immersive global learning experiences.
Godwin is no stranger to Pomona. From 2021 to 2023, she served as Pomona's ACE Internationalization Lab advisor, working closely with our faculty, staff, and students on the Global Pomona Project. This project, which aims to internationalize our curriculum, enhance global engagement and foster a more inclusive campus, is a cornerstone of the College鈥檚 strategic plan.
Godwin holds a Ph.D. focused on comparative international education from Boston College, and a master's degree in higher education administration and social policy from Northwestern University. She received her bachelor's in political science and international relations from Augustana College.
